SUMMARY:Space Café: The Urgency Of Ensuring Sustainability in Space
DESCRIPTION:This Space Café WebTalk will feature Krystal Azelton\, Director of Space Applications Programs at Secure World Foundation\, in conversation with Torsten Kriening\, publisher of SpaceWatch.Global. \n\n\n\nThe space sector is currently teeming with new activities\, from more frequent satellite launches to the massive media coverage of celebrities going to space\, from expanding members in the Artemis Accords to the growth in space debris. The excitement in the industry has been palpable\, yet experts have also been raising the alarms in the need for better space governance. With the increase in the number of anti-satellite tests\, new technologies for potential solutions\, and the fast growth of the commercial satellite industry\, the need for solutions that ensure space sustainability is becoming simultaneously more possible and more urgent. \n\n\n\nSecure World Foundation (SWF) is committed to bring space sustainability to diverse international audiences. It\, along with the UK Space Agency\, will be hosting the 4th Summit for Space Sustainability on June 22-23 in London. The Summit is a unique high-level gathering of global stakeholders from government\, industry\, and civil society\, designed to highlight risks and opportunities and to develop solutions for space sustainability.

SUMMARY:Space Cafe - Scotland
DESCRIPTION:Skyrora – A Tale of Space\, Launch\, Space Debris\, and Government Affairs. \n\n\n\nThis Space Café Scotland will feature movers and shakers from the Scottish Space Ecosystem in conversation with Angela Mathis\, CEO of ThinkTank Maths and a friend of SpaceWatch.Global. \n\n\n\nSkyrora’s head of Government Affairs\, Alan Thompson\, together with the Space Café Scotland host\, Angela Mathis (CEO\, ThinkTank Maths)\, will explain: \n\n\n\nWhy a four-year-old tech start-up has had to develop a fully-fledged Government Affairs function\, where such functions are usually the prerogative of big pharma\, or Primes\, rarely of start-ups.What does the Space industry landscape currently look like in the UK. What are the key fundamentals to make it economically sustainable. He’ll explore how he feels economic development comes into the picture.Alan will give his views on what could be the key USPs of the UK space industry and what Launch could add to this. He’ll also share information around Black Arrow and why the launch in 1971 is so critical for the future of Launch. What does Alan think he’ll be working on in 5 years’ time\, if he’s still in the space sector\, and how will he and his colleagues at Skyrora be able to measure success in this New Space activity.\n\n\n\nThis Space Café Scotland will be conducted in English and is brought to you in partnership with a strategic space marketing firm\, AstroAgency\, supported by ESA Space Solutions \n\n\n\nSpaceWatch.Global is a Switzerland-based digital magazine and portal for those interested in space and the far-reaching impact of the space sector.

SUMMARY:Space Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Please look up! What will it take for humanity to take action on Space Environmentalism?\n\n\n\nThis Thursday\, Moriba Jah’s “Vox Populi” Space Cafe with SpaceWatch.Global takes its inspiration from the movie “Don’t Look Up” in which astronomers try to convince the world of the existential danger from a comet headed towards Earth. Expect a lively conversation debating these questions: \n\n\n\nWhat did people take away from the movie “Don’t Look Up”?Are there any parallels between “Don’t Look Up” and our space debris and traffic problems? What needs to happen for people to take positive action toward solving the space debris and traffic problems? Can we learn anything from indigenous people and if so\, what?Is there a way to recruit empathy from humanity toward space problems and if so\, how?How do we effectively communicate what we stand to lose if we get this wrong?

Unlocking the potential of distributing sensing\, this project can have a significant impact in advancing additional capabilities such as target behaviour analysis. \n\n\n\n3D Phased Array Antenna for Space Debris Detection and Tracking \n\n\n\nThis project aims to create a system that can detect and track space debris using a novel 3D phased arrays on both space borne and ground-based radar receivers. The main objective of the project is to develop an active and a passive radar system that could track and identify space debris. The passive radar paradigm makes the approach interesting in terms of resource reuse and low-cost deployment\, particularly in space. While the 3D phased array active radar paradigm can allow continuous steering on a particular target with the objective of reducing the minimum detectable target size. \n\n\n\nCASSANDRA – Computational Agent for Space Situational Awareness and Debris Remediation Actions \n\n\n\nThis talk will explain how the use of in-space and on ground radar measurements can be integrated in the framework of CASSANDRA to enable robust decision support for both conjunction analysis and collision avoidance manoeuvre execution. The talk will briefly introduce the CASSANDRA framework and then presents how this AI framework ingests radar measurements\, computes the probability of collision and makes robust decisions on the execution of CAMs. Both single encounter and multi-encounter scenarios are considered. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Feedback Form\n\n\nThis form is disabled.

SUMMARY:Space Cafe
DESCRIPTION:This Space Cafe in Moriba jah’s Vox Populi Series will focus on “Space threats or hazards? Can cultural differences explain space actor behaviour(s)?” \n\n\n\nThreats require the concurrent existence of opportunity\, capability\, and intent to cause harm. Physical sensors can help us measure and know the opportunity and capability. But not the intent. How do we infer intent?Because intent is ambiguous\, what outcomes happen when we assume malintent? Can cultural differences amongst space actors explain what otherwise might be interpreted as harmful behaviors? Can we develop practices and protocols to allay malintent and mitigate escalatory behaviors in space?

SUMMARY:Space Cafe: Environmental Protection\, Climate Change\, and their Correlation Pleiades with Orbital Space
DESCRIPTION:Moriba Jah presents this Space Cafe session in partnership with SpaceWatch.Global\, offering some candid discussion about this topic\, and raising awareness globally about this issue. \n\n\n\nWhy do many Climate Change people exclude environmental protection? Are environmental protection and climate change synonymous? What anthropogenic inputs are there to the environmental impact on land\, air\, oceans\, and space? Is there a Correlation Pleiades that shows the interdependencies between the earth\, air\, ocean\, and space environments? Is anyone doing the science to find out?Does inequity\, prejudice\, culture\, and other elements play a significant role in our environmental detriment\, and how so?What possible funding sources and resources are there to bring to bear on this wicked problem? What’s missing and why?
