Space Café: The Urgency Of Ensuring Sustainability in Space

May 24 @ 3:00 pm 4:00 pm

This Space Café WebTalk will feature Krystal Azelton, Director of Space Applications Programs at Secure World Foundation, in conversation with Torsten Kriening, publisher of SpaceWatch.Global.

The space sector is currently teeming with new activities, from more frequent satellite launches to the massive media coverage of celebrities going to space, from expanding members in the Artemis Accords to the growth in space debris. The excitement in the industry has been palpable, yet experts have also been raising the alarms in the need for better space governance. With the increase in the number of anti-satellite tests, new technologies for potential solutions, and the fast growth of the commercial satellite industry, the need for solutions that ensure space sustainability is becoming simultaneously more possible and more urgent.

Secure World Foundation (SWF) is committed to bring space sustainability to diverse international audiences. It, along with the UK Space Agency, will be hosting the 4th Summit for Space Sustainability on June 22-23 in London. The Summit is a unique high-level gathering of global stakeholders from government, industry, and civil society, designed to highlight risks and opportunities and to develop solutions for space sustainability.
